| Progress on the
rebuilding of the body has been good. We now have the complete floor sections with the crossmember and inner sills welded and mounted onto the jig waiting for the body to join them Dismantling and sorting of the mechanical items continues. We have managed to save most of the nuts, bolts and screws these have been beadblasted and wired together ready for cadmium plating. |

Panels repairs to the bottom of the car continue. Bottoms of the B posts have been repaired and made good, we made patterns to repair the left side, which were to be used for the right side. Unfortunately because of the prototype nature of the car the patterns were no good for repairing the right hand side.
The photographs shown this week are of the front of the rear wheels arch toward the bottom, look carefully and you can see the difference from the left to right side where the returns on the wheel arch fit on opposite sides of the inner B Post panel.

This week we have united the body with the floor pan assembly. Now that the body is upright and mounted on our Jig it looks like a motor car again. Pictures this week show the body and floor fitted to Jig. The third picture shows the rear inner wheel arch and illustrates the prototype nature of this car as you can clearly see that the panel has been manufactured in 5 pieces whereas the production cars were a single pressing. The differential casing has been delivered to Dana Spicer for rebuilding. Dana Spicer were the original manufacturers of the axle unit although at the time 9600HP was manufactured they were called Salisbury Axles and then later became GKN Axles and now Dana Spicer Europe Ltd. Thank you to everyone who has purchase a print of 9600HP and thanks for all the positive comments, which have been passed onto Louise. Just to quote from a delighted gentleman in Wisconsin in the USA "what a wonderful painting by Louise Southern to capture the very soul of this historic Jaguar". Signed and unsigned prints are still available. click here to order

This week work has been concentrated on repairing and rebuilding the doors. The doors have to be hung on the car before we can fix the position of the A post and B post.
Both doorframes had extensive corrosion and under normal conditions they would have been scrapped. The right hand frame has taken 20 hours to repair with the left-hand frame taking even longer.
Photograph shows doorframe being repaired using Tig welding methods. Second photograph shows a selection of components returned after the Cadmium plating process.

Repaired doorframes are now fitted to the body and the position of the A post and B post have been fixed. Floor pan can now be spot welded to body.
All brake pistons have been dismantled and carefully cleaned, as expected all pistons have corrosion to the bores. Pistons will be bored oversize and have stainless steel liners fitted before re-assembly with standard seals. |
