The Jaguar E Type has always been acclaimed for its stunning looks and performance. However, one thing that many owners have complained about over the years is the rather acgricultural gearbox on all 3.8 litre cars. Even the all synchro gearbox on the 4.2 E Type leaves the modern motorist searching for that 5th gear.
Help is at hand. CMC of Bridgnorth known worldwide for their restorations of historically important Jaguars have developed a modern 5 speed transmission which is a direct replacement for the original gearbox. The gearlever comes out in the exactley the right place and the gear ratios are virtually indentical to the original Jaguar gearbox with 5th being an overdrive at 0.73:1 ratio.
It Makes Economic sense too There is no need to consider changing he 3.54 US rear axle ratio to the english rear axle ratio of 3.07 which in its self will cost anywhere from £1000.00 to £2000.00, fit our conversion and travelling at 90mph in 5th will be perfectly relaxed at only 3000 rpm. The redundant all synchro box can be sold for on for £500 to £700.
Restoring the old Moss type gearboxes is getting more and more difficult as new parts are increasingly more scarce . The cost for a totally rebuilt unit can be £1400.00. The cost for our kit, which includes everything required to carry out the conversion is £2395.00 plus VAT, we can also carry out the conversion if required.
