CMC Ltd started the restoration of 96OOHP on the 26th April. Due to the world wide interest shown in this project not only by the written media but also television our production time for completing the restoration has been revised and the completion date for the project is the end of January 2000. From now until the 21st May the car will be carefully dismantled. All parts will be logged and photographed. Many unique details have already been noticed and photographed. The bulkhead behind the dash board is a revelation you can still see the scribe marks made by the development engineers where they have decided to move a bracket or drill an extra hole, you can almost relive the thoughts of those people 40 years ago as they tried out different solutions. Another interesting detail found in the rubber elbow hose that the demister tubes are fitted to is small cup shaped piece of tube pushed into the elbow that protrudes into the bulkhead to catch more air as it passed, like most of the development modifications found so far these had no paint or other protection applied. |

Dismantling of the car continues, the body is now nearly ready for careful beadblasting. We have removed the exterior paint using chemical paint strippers and sanding materials. Underseal has been carefully removed with some heat and a scraper. When the body is blasted the bulkhead with all the measurement lines and markings will be masked out and protected, as it is our intention to preserve this part of the car as it is. We are going to have to replace the complete floor sections on both sides of the car due to previous peoples poor repairs. The accident the car had early on in its life must have been quite hard, as there is some distortion evident in the inner sill below the A post on the left side of the vehicle. The mechanical parts of the car have been surprisingly standard. No surprises except for a stiffer front anti roll bar and the reaction plate still has signs of being marked out and made by hand. |

The body shell and associated panels were carefully blasted clean of all paint, underseal and most important, all corrosion on Friday 14th May. The bare metal has been protected while we carry out the panel repairs with an Epoxy Resin primer. Epoxy Resin primers offer the very best protection against further corrosion. Panel repairs have begun this week and we expect them to continue for the next 3 months. The complete floor sections are being removed which has been quite a problem because of previous repairs having been welded over the original rusted floor sections. The lower 3 inches of the inner sills also have to be removed because of corrosion and previous poor repairs. In fact the bottom 3 inches of the tub will have to be replaced in its entirety. For those Jaguar lovers who are contemplating the purchase of one of our limited edition prints, please hurry as we have had a very successful advert in Classic & Sports Car magazine. Do not forget that you have the chance of winning tickets to be with us in Geneva 2000 along with the completed 9600HP |

Repairs to the body have now begun in earnest. The complete floor sections having been removed has allowed us to start repairing the front bulkhead toe boards (see photographs).
Floor sections for the car have been supplied by SNG Barratt of Bridgnorth (www.barratt.co.uk). Obviously these sections are to flat floor production E Type specification and we have to make the necessary modifications to make the floors exact copies of the originals.
